Design: Claesson Koivisto Rune, 2022 (originally 2002)
The Willow rug, designed by the Swedish design studio Claesson Koivisto Rune, was first presented at Helsinki Design Week in 2002. In 2022, the design was further refined and given its final touch through the use of natural willow dyes.
The irregular striped pattern is dyed with hues derived from willow bark and is available in the combinations Stone–Willow Brown, Natural–Willow Brown, and Black–Willow Brown – the latter a look typical of Woodnotes. For lengths over 240 cm, the pattern repeats after 240 cm.
What makes it special: The natural willow dye is produced locally in Finland – the willow is grown, harvested, processed, and used there to dye the paper yarn. This traditional technique is continuously being developed to eventually replace synthetic dyes.
Natural dyes can cause slight variations in tone between batches, which emphasize the authentic character of the material and are not grounds for complaint. The rug is made from plant fibers and contains no animal products, making it 100% vegan.
