Artist Claudia Valsells departs from her usual medium of painting to create the Tones collection, a series that uses color as a central design element and reinterprets the traditional design process of a rug. In the Tones Pieces Tufting model, the artist arranges leftover paint in the center of the rug into a harmonious composition that offers insights into her creative process.
The rug is hand-tufted from new wool—a technique that allows the artwork to be faithfully translated into a textile format.
