For a beautiful home – and a more conscious choice.

Sustainability and Environmental Awareness
At the heart of Farrow & Ball lies a deep commitment to sustainability. As early as 2010, the company transitioned its entire range to water-based formulas that are durable, low in odour, and contain only minimal levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Certified with the EU Ecolabel, these paints meet the highest standards of environmental responsibility.
Farrow & Ball also relies on recyclable packaging and ethically sourced raw materials. The company runs its own water treatment facilities and recycles the majority of its production waste—ensuring its environmental footprint remains as small as possible.

Pigmentation
Farrow & Ball’s colour palette is defined by rich pigmentation and distinctive tones. The complex blend of pigments in each shade creates subtle shifts in the light, bringing unmistakable depth and vibrancy to every space.
Farrow & Ball was one of the first in the industry to fully switch to water-based paints – as early as 2010. Even their high-performance gloss finishes are now available in low-odour, environmentally friendly formulations. All emulsions are rated “Trace VOC,” the lowest possible classification, while the rest of the range is “Minimal” or “Low VOC” – and in many cases, the actual values go well beyond these standards.
Was bedeutet VOC?
VOC steht für „Volatile Organic Compounds“ – also flüchtige organische Verbindungen. Sie sind mitverantwortlich für den starken Geruch klassischer ölhaltiger Farben und gelten als belastend für Mensch und Umwelt. Farrow & Ball verwendet hingegen wasserbasierte Formulierungen mit kaum wahrnehmbarem Geruch, die deutlich angenehmer zu verarbeiten sind und besser für die Raumluft.
Farrow & Ball is uncompromising when it comes to quality – starting with the raw materials. Every ingredient, from binders to pigments, is sourced from long-standing partners who operate responsibly. That means no exploitative practices and maximum transparency throughout the supply chain.
Even Farrow & Ball’s most hard-wearing paints meet the highest standard for indoor air quality under the French VOC regulations, earning an A+ rating. That means the air remains clean and safe even weeks after painting – an important consideration, especially in well-insulated homes.
Most Farrow & Ball finishes – including Dead Flat, Modern Emulsion, and Estate Emulsion – are certified toy-safe according to the European standard EN 71-3. That means they're safe to use on children's furniture, beds, and toys, with no harmful emissions or solvents. The only exceptions are two specialist finishes: Casein Distemper and Soft Distemper.
Sustainability isn’t just about what a product is made of – it’s also about how long it lasts. Finishes like Modern Emulsion and Dead Flat are highly durable and easy to clean. They achieve the highest rating (Class 1) in the industry-standard scrub test, making them ideal for high-traffic areas.
Farrow & Ball has never tested on animals – and never will. The majority of their range is also vegan, meaning free from animal-derived ingredients. The only exceptions are two specialist finishes, Casein Distemper and Soft Distemper, which contain traditional binders made from leather or milk derivatives.
